Researchers from the University of Minnesota in the USA found that people who were more likely to experience feelings of sexual nostalgia also experienced increased sexual satisfaction in relationships. Study published magazine Journal of Gender Studies.
Previous research has shown that nostalgia improves well-being, boosts self-esteem, and enhances a sense of self-preservation. Nostalgia can also increase feelings of bonding with other people. However, how it affects sex life has not been determined.
The authors conducted two studies involving more than 800 people who were in a relationship for more than six months. As part of the two studies, volunteers were required to complete a questionnaire about sex nostalgia and satisfaction with sex (physical and emotional).
As it turns out, people experiencing sexual nostalgia more frequently reported higher levels of sexual satisfaction. In addition, this relationship is more pronounced in individuals with high levels of anxious attachment. Sexual nostalgia can serve as a tool to reduce feelings of loneliness and strengthen intimacy with a partner.
The anxious type of attachment in a relationship means dependence on the emotional closeness and attention of a partner, when there is a constant feeling of lack, disconnection and coldness in communication with your soul mate.
