A study by scientists from the University of Aberdeen in England shows that quarantine is similar to imprisonment in its effect on memory. The results of the work of experts are presented in a published article. magazine PLOS ONE.

More than 200 people participated in the study – they were asked to name the year in which the major news events occurred. That is, the participants could find out when Meghan Markle joined the royal family, when the coronavirus vaccine started, when Donald Trump was blocked on social networks, etc.

It seems that the volunteers remembered the events of 2021 just as badly as the events of four years ago. Moreover, people experiencing severe stress and anxiety showed the worst results.

According to the researchers, this happens to inmates in prisons who lose the ability to follow the flow of time.

“Like the inmates, the volunteers did not have life events that could be used as touchstones to track the passage of time, such as birthday parties and holidays,” the authors write.
