Specialists of the Russian National Research Medical University Institute for the Study of Aging. Alexei Churov, director of the NI Institute, told socialbites.ca that Pirogov has developed a universal aging clock that is more accurate than analogues.

“We are conducting exploratory work on biomarkers of aging and developing new approaches to assess biological age. Everyone already knows that the chronological age in the passport differs from the actual biological age. We are trying to create an accurate predictor of biological age – the time (calculator) of aging. The expert is formed based on the assessment of various indicators : clinical, biochemical, epigenetic and others, ”explained the specialist.

Clocks of aging are needed not to determine age, but to accurately identify targets for geroprotective interventions, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of such interventions in clinical practice.

“We’re working on a universal calculator that can be used in most labs. Until now, the error in determining the age of most calculators in the world is up to 8-12 years. That’s a lot. Our calculators are already working more accurately,” Churov said.

According to him, them while at RNIMU. NI Pirogov created two such calculators. The first is aimed at assessing the condition of the vessels, and the second is based on data obtained by echocardiography – ultrasound of the heart. The new clock will take other data into account.

“There’s the idea to create other calculators, including those based on genetic and epigenetic markers,” Churov said.
