Rosatom experts have developed an innovative plant for hydrogen production. The uniqueness of the invention lies in the combination of competitive advantages of the most common industrial technologies, but it is not without shortcomings. writes about it TASS With reference to the press service of TVEL JSC.

Specialists of NPO Centrotech LLC, located in Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk Region, produced a prototype electrolysis plant with a capacity of 50 Nm3 / h (this is a unit for measuring the amount of a substance that occupies one cubic meter of gaseous state under normal conditions). They used unique Russian technology. The first phase of testing the installation has been successfully completed.

The operation of the plant is based on an import-independent water electrolysis technology using an anion-conducting matrix. The unit includes two technologies: alkaline flow and electrolysis based on a proton exchange membrane. They say that in Rosatom it is also devoid of shortcomings.

The invention has low specific energy consumption of the electrolysis battery (not more than 4 kWh per normal cubic meter of hydrogen produced), high dynamic properties and safe operation of the electrolysis plant from zero to 115% of the rated capacity. The facility was noted to have achieved the required commercial hydrogen purity.

For the first time, 3D printing was used to manufacture some parts of electrolysis batteries. This made it possible to reduce weight and reduce labor intensity and production time.
