According to scientists from the City University of Hong Kong, high social mobility causes a delay in the birth of children for a couple. The results of the research have been published magazine Sexual Behavior Archives.
Many family decisions depend on social factors and life strategies. Therefore, the decision to have a child can be taken early or late depending on these factors. The authors decided to find out how the speed of making this decision is affected by social mobility, that is, a change in socio-economic status in society.
“We conducted four studies, including a survey of nearly 7,000 people and an experiment with more than 400 participants. We were able to find that a high level of social mobility predicts and leads to a delay in the decision to have children. (both objective and subjective) associated with positive expectations for the future.
In other words, people with high social mobility do not rush to have children because they think that there will be more suitable conditions for this in the future. This forces them to focus on long-term goals and develop a slow lifecycle strategy.
