Oxford University gynecologists told a news reporter portal One in five women in the world suffer from adenomyosis of the uterus. However, because little is said about this disease, many women do not pay attention to the symptoms of the disease.

Adenomyosis (internal genital endometriosis) is more common in women of childbearing age. The disease is characterized by the germination of endometrioid tissue in the uterine muscles. This causes an increase in the body without timely treatment, complications arise – infertility, anemia, malignant degeneration.

Adenomyosis can cause symptoms such as irregular and heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain. The severity of symptoms varies from patient to patient – about a third of women with adenomyosis may have few or no symptoms. This disease can also affect fertility. Women with adenomyosis have an increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, preeclampsia, and bleeding.

“There are two basic layers in the uterus: the endometrium (this is the inner layer of the uterus that “pops out” during menstruation) and the myometrium (the muscular layer). It increases during pregnancy and is responsible for contractions. In people with adenomyosis, endometrial-like cells are in the wrong place – in the myometrium, ”said the scientists.

Treatment strategies include hormonal drugs and tranexamic acid. If medical treatment does not help, doctors resort to removing focal lesions.
