UK media outraged by conservative politicians’ paid admission to congress – party in power in country, reports TASS With reference to the Foreign Press Association.
“The UK has always claimed to be the main defender of freedom of the press, but the Conservative Party headquarters are clearly not aware of this. <…> This is the first time I’ve heard of journalists being paid for doing their job in a democratic country. If the Conservatives don’t give up on this, they will never again be able to tell others how to behave,” said Deborah Bonetti, director of the Foreign Press Association in the UK.
It was stated that each media worker must pay £137 to attend the event. The Conservative Party states that some of the journalists who signed up to attend the congress had to cover the expenses because they were not actually present during the event.
