Union of Orthodox Journalists of Ukraine (UOJ) area reported that the police prohibited the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) from holding a religious ceremony in the Chernivtsi region, citing the ban on mass gatherings due to martial law.

“Religious ceremonies are prohibited by the decision of the Defense Council of the Chernivtsi region of August 12, 2022,” UOJ, Chernivtsi regional police said in a statement.

The publication says that the police have drawn up administrative protocols against the organizers of the religious procession at Banchen Monastery. Law enforcement officials stressed that religious ceremonies are prohibited on the territory of Ukraine during martial law.
