Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense noted that in the past 24 hours, 33 planes and 10 ships belonging to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have approached the island. It has been reported TASS.
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense, 12 aircraft crossed the so-called midline of the Taiwan Strait or entered the Air Defense Identification Zone of the island. These include four SU-30 and J-10 fighters, one Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft, one WZ-7 aircraft, one J-16 fighter and one Z-9 anti-submarine helicopter.
In response to the actions of the PLA, the Taiwanese ministry of defense raised the plane, and air defense systems pursued the stated targets.
Earlier, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said that Taiwanese authorities they are discussing on matters relating to the provision of a “nuclear umbrella” with its allies. In his view, he cannot confirm or deny the existence of such consultations with the United States.
As Taiwan’s foreign minister pointed out, protection against nuclear threats is a very important issue for Taipei. He also added that the island itself has no intention of building, hosting or using nuclear weapons.
