Shoigu pointed out that the measures implemented by Russia and Belarus “comply with all existing international legal obligations”.
“Russia does not transfer nuclear weapons to the Republic of Belarus: the decision on their control and their use rests with the Russian side,” said the Russian Defense Minister.
According to him, “additional measures can be taken to ensure the security of the State of the Union in the future and to respond to the military-political situation.”

Shoigu also reminded that the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system, which can use missiles not only in conventional but also in nuclear weapons, was delivered to the Belarusian side.
“Some of the Belarusian aircraft have been converted for possible use of nuclear weapons. The soldiers received the necessary training,” he said.
The Russian minister noted that an “undeclared war” waged by Western countries “was unleashed” against Moscow and Minsk, and NATO’s military activities “acquired the most aggressive aspect”.
Deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus
In turn, the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, Viktor Khrenin, said that the deployment of Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in the republic “should make the leadership of non-enemy countries think about the inadmissibility of further escalation of the situation in the region.”
Recall, on March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that, at the request of the Belarusian side, the Russian Federation will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in the republic, “as the United States has long done on the territory of its allies. “
According to Putin, the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus is scheduled to be completed by July 1, 2023.
