French authorities have started to create temporary centers in the regions to accommodate the homeless who will be evacuated from Paris before the Olympic Games. Channel reports France 24.
Housing Minister Olivier Klein told Parliament in early May that the development of regional centers for the homeless is linked to the anticipated housing shortage in Paris during the Rugby World Cup in September and the Olympic Games in July and August 2024. Many cheap hotels now provide temporary accommodation for the homeless, but will later rent their rooms for sports fans and tourists. In this regard, the authorities are concerned about opening shelters for people in need.
At the same time, local governments are generally not satisfied with this decision of the city authorities. The mayor of the city of Brews in the northwest of the country opposed the idea of creating a center for the homeless on the land entrusted to him. He explained this by the fact that the site allocated for its construction is located next to the railway and therefore contains high amounts of hydrocarbons and heavy metals in the air.
The deputy and representative of the unconquered France party, Adrian Cloue, sees the evacuation of the homeless from the capitals before important international events as “the method of all authoritarian regimes” and cites Brazil and China as an example.
Earlier, it is stated that the President of the country took measures to evacuate immigrants and other people who need social support from the capital area.
In 2021, Emmanuel Macron blamed Boris Johnson. Not taking the immigration crisis seriously.
