Urologists at Maimonides Medical Center in the USA have listed the drugs most commonly associated with erectile dysfunction (ED). The results of the research have been published magazine sexual medicine
“We used the national pharmacovigilance database to determine which drugs cause the highest incidence of ED. We examined the reporting of ED events between 2010 and 2020. Drugs used to treat ED were excluded from the analysis. As a result, the analysis included the 20 drugs that most commonly cause erection problems in men.” they write.
A total of 20 drugs were responsible for 6,000 reports of post-drug erection problems. 5-α reductase inhibitors (used to treat patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia) and neuropsychiatric drugs were responsible for 2823 (46%) and 2442 (40%) reports, respectively.
“Physicians need to be familiar with these drugs and understand their mechanism of action so they can adjust treatment if problems arise,” the researchers wrote.
