Sitting at a computer for long periods of time and working in poor or poorly lit rooms puts the eye muscles under strain for focusing vision. This is followed by headache, fatigue, redness, irritation and dryness of the eyes, blurred vision and progression of myopia. Andrey Popov, an ophthalmologist at Medicina JSC, told socialbites.ca about this.
According to the expert, the first thing to do to reduce the visual load is to adjust the brightness of the computer screen correctly and place it at a distance of 35-40 cm from the eyes.
“When we look at the screen of any device, we blink less. This causes dry eyes, so it is necessary to monitor blink frequency and if discomfort occurs, use moisturizing drops as directed by an ophthalmologist,” said the doctor.
It affects vision and light. Therefore, in poorly lit rooms it is worth installing additional light, and in well-lit rooms it is better to shade. During the daytime, natural light should enter the room – even in cloudy weather it is more beneficial than artificial lighting.
“To prevent eye strain, it is necessary to observe a dosed vision regimen: take a break 40 minutes after any visual work and eye exercises. The correct landing on the desktop is also important – 35-40 cm from the work surface, the back is straight, the emphasis is on the legs, ”advised Andrey Popov.
The ophthalmologist also recommended diversifying the diet. It should also consist of products containing natural vitamins. In the absence of allergic reactions, fermented milk products, blueberries, orange vegetables and fruits rich in carotenoids – carrots, pumpkin, mango should be included in the diet.
