NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana said that the alliance will take decisions in the field of deterrence and defense at the summit to be held in Vilnius on July 11-12, which will take air defense to a new level. He said this at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Luxembourg.
According to him, air defense occupies a critical place in the new multi-regional plans of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Geoanė noted that NATO’s lessons learned from the Ukraine conflict, including Russia’s capabilities and the effectiveness of Patriot air defense systems, invite alliance member states to do more. The deputy secretary general said NATO would do more.
The politician added that work on the air defense system continues, new deterrence and defense plans will be adopted, and in the implementation of new plans, the alliance will reach a new level of air defense.
Geoane also said that a number of NATO allies, including Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, are preparing relevant proposals.
