The Russian Red Cross (RKK) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and launched a second humanitarian mission in Syria in February to support the earthquake-affected population. reported Online organizations. The document was signed by RKK President Pavel Savchuk and Syrian Arab Red Crescent President Khaled Khboubati.
Under the memorandum, national associations will join forces to provide high-quality humanitarian assistance to the population in emergencies and humanitarian crises.
As Savchuk stated, in March 2022, the RKK team arrived in Syria with the first humanitarian mission to help the victims in Latakia, and now the second mission begins, following the signed Memorandum of Understanding.
“This time, we plan to significantly increase the number of beneficiaries, distribute several times more humanitarian aid, provide medical, humanitarian and psychosocial support to people not only in Latakia but also in its suburbs and surrounding areas,” he added.
It was also noted that RKK donated a mobile station for humanitarian aid to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. According to Savchuk, “A similar point worked in the Belgorod region and during the first humanitarian mission of the Russian Red Cross team in Syria.”
“Our work in Russia is now focused on fires in the regions, and our work on providing assistance in the framework of the Ukrainian crisis continues – soon we will start direct payments of supplies to residents of the Belgorod region in the areas affected by the bombardment. “But in the case of such large-scale disasters and tens of thousands of victims, we are already able to help internationally.”
The RKK delegation consists of 13 people, including volunteer doctors, psychosocial support and emergency response specialists. They will provide humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in two weeks. They will distribute tons of baby food especially to those in need. The second field of work of RSC specialists is to provide qualified medical care.
