Being outdoors in the spring and summer is good for children, but remember that in the warmer season, tick and mosquito season begins. Sunstroke, snakes, wild animals and poisonings are also threatened, mostly by children going for a walk. This was told socialbites.ca by a doctor of the highest category and a pediatrician at the local JSC Meditsina Maryam Sayfulina.
According to the expert, the first thing to consider when going out with children is to cover your legs, arms, upper parts of your face with clothes and wear a panama hat on your head.
“Clothes can be treated with repellents. Typical symptoms of insect bites are itching, skin rash, fever. With such symptoms, you need to urgently contact a pediatrician-therapist or infectious disease specialist. The main measure for the prevention of viral diseases is vaccination, for example, against tick-borne encephalitis, ”the pediatrician explained.
Also in nature, it is important to ensure that the child does not eat poisonous plants and mushrooms, as they can cause poisoning. In such cases, it is necessary to carry absorbent preparations, activated charcoal. In case of poisoning, you need to make the child drink more liquid and consult an infectious disease specialist.
“You need to supervise children around the fire to prevent thermal burns. If a burn occurs, it is necessary to cool the skin with cold water, and then cover the burn site with a sterile wet bandage. If blisters occur, you should consult a doctor,” advised Maryam Saifulina.
A common problem associated with prolonged heat exposure is sunstroke. Symptoms include feeling unwell, fever, headache, nausea and vomiting. To get rid of them, you need to drink plenty of mineral water or plain water. Wear a hat on sunny days, stay in the shade more often and drink plenty of fluids.
“Snake bites in nature can also wait: vipers, muzzle or gyurza. In such cases, it is necessary to take a photo of the snake that bit the person to show the doctor. You can remove the poison yourself and disinfect the wound, the main thing is to ensure maximum peace of mind to the victim and get him to the nearest hospital as soon as possible, ”said the doctor of the highest category.
Another danger, he says, is wild and stray animals, which can be carriers of dangerous diseases, including rabies. If a child is bitten by a monster, it is necessary to treat the wound with an antiseptic and urgently seek help from a doctor.
