Virologist says who will be affected by quarantine due to bird flu in Moscow

According to him, the quarantine mainly applies to poultry farms located in areas where restrictive measures have been declared. He noted that “they should take appropriate measures” and that a ban could be imposed on the sale of products from these factories.

“This does not mean a walking ban,” said Altstein, and reminded that this virus cannot be transmitted from person to person.

The virologist also emphasized that bird flu is very dangerous for humans, but that in the last 25 years, probably about a thousand people have been infected all over the world.

He also explained that this type of flu is “very severe” in humans, that people who have close contact with birds can get sick, but that “you need to take a pretty high dose” for that.

On May 18, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin declared quarantine in various districts of the capital. The centers of spread of the virus are located in the western part of the Borisovsky pond and next to the Besedinskoye highway. It was also reported that visiting these areas is prohibited.
