VTsIOM: Slightly less than half of Russians are HIV aware

While only 41% are aware of the immunodeficiency virus (HIV), 54% of those surveyed have heard of it and 5% know nothing about the virus. This is evidenced by the survey data of the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion (VTsIOM).

“Today, 41% of Russians know a lot about HIV infection and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), according to their own assessment, the other 54% admitted that every second they only hear about it, that is, they have something. Superficial opinion, 5% don’t know anything about this disease”.

At the same time, it is stated that the majority of the respondents have correct ideas about HIV infection. 92% of the respondents cited non-sterile syringes and needles, 91% had unprotected sex, and 78% cited dirty devices in tattoo parlors as reasons.
