Woman arrested for strangling her rapist with a T-shirt in Mexico Mirror. The court’s decision sparked protests across the country.
Roxana Ruiz was sentenced to six years in prison for “excessive self-defense”. This started threatening and raping after the woman strangled the perpetrator who broke into her home. The court admitted that he was a victim, but “a blow to the head” would have sufficed in self-defense.
“Sorry, disappointed with the justice. “If I hadn’t defended myself, I would have died,” said Roxana after the verdict was announced.
Ruiz’s lawyer said his client will appeal the decision, which also ordered him to pay 286,000 pesos and compensation to the deceased’s family as compensation.
Previously a van-truck collision in Mexico 26 people died.
