Researchers at the University of Catania in Italy found that overweight or obese men have 50% smaller testicles than their peers without weight problems. There is also a higher risk of low sperm count and infertility in adulthood. Study published magazine European Journal of Endocrinology.

The study included 268 children aged 9 to 16, 200 of whom were overweight or obese. As it turned out, the second group had 50% smaller testicles, and teens with high levels of insulin (a precursor to type II diabetes) had half the testicles of their peers without it.

According to the authors, being overweight or obese disrupts hormones, causing heat stress in the scrotum, leading to a reduction in the size of the testicles. This, in turn, can lead to a decrease in active sperm count and the development of infertility in adulthood.

Formerly urologist Dmitriev judicial a disease in which the testicles can “separate” in the thigh area.
