A study by scientists from the University of Canberra in Australia, published Women’s Health magazine found that women with large breasts may be less satisfied with their appearance.
According to the authors, this, in turn, is associated with a number of undesirable effects, including worsening well-being, negative body image, and decreased physical activity and awareness of changes in their breasts. The latter has serious health implications.
The scientists’ work included 345 adult women. Participants’ parameters such as height, BMI and breast volume were measured. They also completed a breast satisfaction self-report and a physical activity questionnaire.
The results showed that larger breast size was associated with being more likely to report breast dissatisfaction. Age and BMI did not affect this indicator. More breast satisfaction was associated with better quality of life and more physical activity. However, this effect decreases as BMI increases.
“This study made important strides towards a better understanding of how breast size and satisfaction may be related to women’s health and well-being. The authors noted that further study with a larger sample is needed in the future.
