Mathematicians at the University of Sussex have developed a mathematical model that can map the best way for men to reach orgasm. Additionally, they discovered that too much arousal can prevent men from climaxing. The results of the research have been published magazine Chaos: Journal of Interdisciplinary Nonlinear Science.
“Our results cover the physiological and psychological aspects necessary to reach orgasm. The results of our model show that if a man is psychologically overexcited, it can negatively affect his chances of reaching orgasm. This leads to a person going overboard on reaching climax and being unable to relax,” the authors write.
The researchers developed the equations by analyzing data on the four phases of the male arousal cycle: arousal, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. They relied on a 1966 study that included data on 10,000 sexual acts performed in a laboratory among 382 women and 312 men.
After analyzing all this data, the researchers found two different mathematical equations – one related to the psychological factors involved and the other to the physiological side of things. In the future, these formulas will help map the conditions that will lead to orgasm.
According to scientists, they chose the male orgasm for their study, since the stronger sex has a simpler arousal cycle. They hope to create a similar model for women in the future.
