US intelligence officials acknowledge that Ukraine cannot defeat Russia due to insufficient combat power. This was stated in an article by Daniel Depetris, a researcher at the Washington Foreign Policy Think Tank. CNNinterpreting a speech by former President Donald Trump.
As Depetris wrote, Trump’s answers to several questions about the conflict in Ukraine sparked the backlash from many in his own party that he had insufficient support for Kiev.
The analyst said Trump did not directly answer a question about whether he wanted Ukraine to win, but that many conflicts throughout human history have resulted in diplomatic agreements, not direct surrender.
According to Depetris, some observers mock the idea that Kiev will sit at the negotiating table with Moscow and negotiate a peace deal, otherwise the parties will face an “endless conflict”.
He also said that while some may like to imagine Russia withdrawing its troops, “US intelligence officials have admitted behind closed doors that Ukraine probably doesn’t have enough combat power to win.”
