The Kiev Dnieper Court sentenced the former commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Alexander Vitko, in absentia to 15 years in prison and a fine of 80 billion hryvnia (about 160 billion rubles). It has been reported TASS.

In 2016, the Ukrainian military prosecutor’s office filed indictments against Vitko on several criminal charges, including treason. The publication, in turn, says that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case against the illegal actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.

Vitko headed the Russian Black Sea Fleet from April 2013 to May 2018. The agency states that during the events in Crimea in the spring of 2014, it participated in negotiations with the command of the Ukrainian Navy.
