Two Mi-8 helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces, a Su-34 fighter-bomber and a Su-35 fighter jet crashed almost simultaneously in the Bryansk Region, which may have been the result of a missile attack. The newspaper writes about it “Kommersant”.
According to preliminary information, helicopters and warplanes were part of the same air group. According to the publication, the Su-34 and Su-35 were supposed to launch missile and bomb attacks on targets in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine. At the same time, helicopters had to insure fighters, among other things, to take the crew of the aircraft in case of their downing. According to the publication, the pilots died as a result of the accident.
The publication said video footage shared by locals on social media showed that at least one Mi-8 had been hit by a rocket that crashed in the suburbs of the city of Klintsy. It is assumed that launches are made from the ground. Therefore, the police in the Bryansk region were alerted, a “Prevention” plan was introduced in the area to look for possible saboteurs.
Experts agreed that, judging by the approach of the missile to the Mi-8, the attack was most likely carried out with air-to-air weapons, that is, from enemy aircraft or helicopters. The publication therefore points out that the Russian air group most likely fell into an air ambush.
