“Our first Green Marathon was held in 2012. The event was timed to coincide with the 2014 XXII Winter Olympic Games to be held in Sochi. In the first race, 30,000 people started, another 20,000 people came to support them. In 2021, when Sberbank celebrates its 180th anniversary, more than 90,000 runners participated in the Green Marathon. “The Green Marathon has already become a good national tradition, a sports, philanthropic, environmental and family holiday that covers the whole of Russia,” said Kuznetsov.
The vice president of Sberbank also spoke about the charitable component of the marathon.
“Those who want to participate in the Green Marathon in Moscow have gone through the paid registration process. All funds raised for registration, as well as voluntary donations and fees made at other venues of the event, will go to Contribution to the Future Charity. With this money, we will plant trees in the areas where the Green Marathon is held. The priority will be the regions of Russia where the forest fund is most damaged by human actions,” he said.
According to Kuznetsov, amateur running is currently on the rise in Russia.
“Today, for example, more people participate in running starts than in the 90s. We see the same trend in our employees. We expect about 100,000 participants to start the Green Marathon on May 20 this year. This will be one of the biggest running competitions in our country,” he said.
Kuznetsov noted that the Green Marathon route runs through familiar places of participating cities.
“These are main squares, parks, embankments. We choose the route on the one hand, on a simple, low-climbing, easily traversed surface, and on the other hand, to be picturesque, ostentatious and accessible in terms of transportation.” Minister.
