The transition to a progressive basic and specialized higher education system is determined by the requirements of the time and the challenges facing the country. The rector of MISIS University, Alevtina Chernikova, commented on the signing of the decree on the reform of higher education by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“It is important that education programs can be implemented by taking into account the needs of students and the needs of employers. This will expand opportunities for students and help them successfully find employment. Graduates of the specialization will have the opportunity to study in a new type of master’s program in government-funded places,” he said.
According to Alevtina Chernikova, universities today develop programs of varying duration and complexity in response to job demands.
“As a national research university, exercising its right to independently develop educational standards, the National Research Technological University MISIS became the first university in Russia to launch an integrated master’s and graduate program, which allows to shorten the study period by one year.” head of the educational institution.
The rector of MISIS University emphasized that the university has the experience of implementing targeted training programs lasting 10-12 months upon the request of its business partners. It is designed for experts from relevant industries who need to update or deepen their knowledge.
On May 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the pilot project of higher education reform to be carried out in the academic years 2023-2024 and 2025-2026 at six Russian universities. One of the project participants is NUST MISIS.
According to the document published on the official legal information portal, various levels of education have been established. This is direct higher education – basic and specialized, as well as professional – postgraduate education. It refers to specialization education, master’s degree, specialization and assistantship-internships.
At the same time, those who study at universities within the scope of specialization programs will be able to continue to enter the master’s degree as the next step. This will not be considered a second or further higher education.
