Police detained three people in Perm, who allegedly collected money for participants in a special military operation through the fake “channels” of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan. This was announced by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk. DEA News.

As Volk said, the attackers created several “channels” in one of the messengers, supposedly run on behalf of Simonyan. The number of subscribers of fake channels exceeded 100 thousand.

The scammers wanted to transfer the money to the debit cards of the “volunteers”, but the money actually collected was stolen.

Learning about the incident, Simonyan applied to the police. The robbers were identified, they were detained in Perm. Investigators found that the two received money on their bank cards from channel subscribers from different regions of Russia. Citizens transferred 20 thousand rubles at a time. In total, the scammers managed to collect 7 million rubles in a month and a half.

A criminal case was initiated on fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The three defendants are currently under house arrest.

It was reported earlier that the Governor of the Orenburg region Denis Pasler presented the authorities will transfer one day’s earnings to those who participated in the hostilities in Ukraine.
