Scientists from Ohio State University have found factors that allow you to maintain the result for a long time after losing 5% or more of the original weight. Research published Journal of the American Heart Association.
Scientists analyzed data from more than 20,000 American adults. They found that skipping meals and taking prescription diet pills were associated with minimal weight loss. In addition, those who could not lose weight followed low-carb and liquid diets, took laxatives, made themselves throw up and started smoking.
People with significant weight loss reported higher diet quality, higher protein intake, and higher activity levels. They also restricted their sugar intake more often.
“We’ve seen people continue to turn to unsustainable, non-evidence-based weight loss approaches. What’s sustainable is changing their lifestyle and eating habits,” he said.
