Cryotherapy accelerated the healing of bone injuries in an experiment on mice. This was reported by the press service of the RNF.

Cryotherapy is the temporary cooling of living tissue used in various branches of medicine: Undesirable formations on the skin are removed by freezing with severe cold, athletes apply ice to bruises, cool them with liquefied gas, and short-term cooling is done. skin can increase blood flow to it and accelerate regeneration. At the same time, it is not known exactly how the cold directly affects the bones.

Moscow State Technical University specialists NE Bauman decided to find out whether percutaneous bone cooling affects healing rates. The experiment was carried out on laboratory rats, two millimeter holes were drilled in the bones of the hind legs of 12 animals. After that, it was exposed to a special medical “refrigerator”, some of which can be applied to the skin. The rats in the first group were exposed to cold twice a week, and the rats in the second group were exposed to cold once a week. In these groups, only one paw was cooled, the second foot was not cryotherapy, the control group recovered naturally.

Six weeks later, the researchers compared the results: it turned out that the fastest recovery occurred in the group that used cryotherapy most often. In these rats, bone tissue healed in six weeks. However, there is also an effect away from the cooling site: if the bone in the control group rats did not heal within six weeks, then in the uncooled paws of the rats (when the second injured paw was still chilled), the dynamics of bone healing was significantly better than in the control group.

Based on this, the authors concluded that the cold can not only have a local effect, but also affect the body as a whole. The authors hope that after additional research, this type of cryotherapy could be used to heal fractures in humans.

ancient scientists clarified a new type of activity in the brain of a dying person.
