Amendments to the federal constitutional law on martial law for holding elections in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions were submitted to the State Duma. This was announced by Pavel Krasheninnikov, chairman of the Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation. TASS.

According to Russian legislation, in areas where martial law has been declared, referendums and elections for state officials and local governments are not held.

At the same time, Krasheninnikov noted that the laws on the admission of new subjects to the Russian Federation state that elections should be held on its territory in the fall of 2023. The parliamentarian explained that in order to eliminate this contradiction, citizens are given the opportunity to express their political will.
