VNII GOChS: Amur autopsy poses a threat of flooding in the Khabarovsk Territory

The Amur River near Nikolaevsk-on-Amur in the Khabarovsk Region is expected to open on May 7-9, it could flood roads and infrastructure in three districts of the region. This warning has been made All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergencies (VNII GOChS).

The VNII GOChS forecast states that “… in the Komsomolsky, Ulchsky and Nikolaevsky districts there is a possibility of dangerous hydrological phenomena with flooding of road sections, agricultural land and infrastructure facilities.”

It is also possible for water to enter the floodplain when opening the Kan rivers in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Shilka in the Trans-Baikal Territory and small rivers in the Velsky and Kholmogorsky districts of the Arkhangelsk region.

In addition, the water level in the Krasnodar reservoir, according to the VNII GOChS, exceeds the normal retention level by almost one meter. Increased discharges from this hydroelectric complex can flood low-lying residential areas in the Temryuk region.

Previously reported to be VNII GOChS warned Russians about dangerous ice jams on rivers in six regions of the country. There is a high risk of formation of dangerous ice jams with flooding of low-lying areas in the rivers of the Amur, Sukhona and Northern Dvina basins in the Vologda Oblast, the Republic of Khakassia, the Trans-Baikal Territory.
