The growing separation between man and nature sometimes makes us forget the usefulness of the natural, free and renewable resources that lie before us every day. For example, the sun not only provides us with electricity or hot water, but also cook outdoors. No need to light a fire or plug in any device. And also without any kind of battery. They are parabolic solar cookersA new invention that is already available for purchase in Spain and allows you to prepare meals wherever you are for prices starting from 100 Euros.
Despite the advantage it represents, the invention It couldn’t be simpler in its physical configuration: a simple parabolic mirror (folds up for storage in a box), a support for the pot or pan, and some legs to support the system on the floor. Nothing else.
And the operation is equally simple. The heat that will enable cooking in a pot or pan is obtained from the condensation of the sun’s rays at one point, thanks to the curvature of the parabolic structure.. The temperature reached at the junction of the rays is sufficient to prepare stews, frying, stewing and any other dish.
It’s true that the time it takes for this solar cooker to heat up enough to operate at full capacity is slightly longer (but not exaggerated) than a conventional cooker. A liter of water comes to the boiling point in twenty minutes., according to several users. But others claim that the same volume boils much earlier.
Some of the most popular models (because there are several brands marketing these kitchens) are made of a metallic mirror, pure anodized aluminum, coated with two ceramide nanolayers that strengthen light and limit scratches.
The very small models (85 centimeters open like the Sunplicity brand) and a weight of only 2.8 kilograms are capable of preparing meals for two or three people, or more if the cooking time is extended.
In the case of the Sunplictiy brand, its manufacturer provides: “Always the mirror of the plate stays cold, only the bowl is heated”. In addition, “more even distribution of heat prevents food from sticking to the bottom of the pan” and the amount of oil or salt can also be greatly reduced.
Also available in Spain
In Spain, such solar parabolic cookers can be purchased from various web pages. One of them is owned by the Malaga company Ensol, which sells models. from 110 Euros, although there is a wider range depending on its size and power.. On their website you can see a video where a solidarity paella is prepared using such cuisines.
“It’s truly incredible how much performance you can get in the sun and the calories it produces in focus. It is an element commonly used in developing countries mainly for boiling/purifying water and cooking. Anyone who tries it and sees how it works, the speed of heating and boiling 1 liter of water (approximately 5-8 minutes), is completely convinced of its effectiveness.”
But, a number of precautions should be takenbecause even if there is no fire, the intensity of the sunlight it focuses on is a danger similar to fire itself.
“is-is sunglasses are important (and for all parabolic cookers on the market, not just our model) and position themselves at the back to cook on it,” says Ensol.
TRUE carefully read the instructions for each modelbecause it turns out what features the heated pots should have in order not to be damaged and how the bottom should be.
