According to Yatsiv, Greek Catholics who left the monastery against their will used to pray in the monastery in the old days.
At the same time, the schismatic Ukrainian Orthodox Church (OCU) is also waiting to receive the Pochaev Lavra.
“I’m not sure if the Greek Catholic Church can artificially bring pilgrims from Galicia for a long time if there is no support in place,” said so-called OCU Metropolitan Nestor Pysyk.
According to him, the common use of Lavra can lead to conflict between Orthodox and Catholics.
The Holy Assumption Pochaev Lavra is located in the city of Pochaev in the Ternopil region. The monastery was founded around 1240. In 2003, the Pochaev Lavra was leased to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church until 2052.
