Scientists at Uppsala University in Sweden have found that mental disorders such as attention deficit disorder and intellectual disability increase the risk of testicular cancer in men. The results of the research group’s work have been published. magazine British Journal of Cancer.
Testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer in young men. Many researchers are trying to find out various factors associated with the development of the disease. However, the association with psychiatric disorders has not yet been fully explored.
The study included more than 6,000 Swedish patients diagnosed with testicular cancer between 1992 and 2014. Information was also collected about mental disorders diagnosed six months before oncology.
The researchers concluded that men with psychiatric disorders developed testicular cancer earlier and were more likely to have an advanced form at the time of diagnosis. The reason for this association has yet to be established, but the current results will help detect cancer earlier in people with intellectual disabilities.
