SIPRI: World defense spending in 2022, the highest level in recent years

According to SIPRI, the USA, China, Russia, India and Saudi Arabia have the highest military defense spending. They accounted for about 63% of the world’s military-industrial complex spending.

The main reason for the increase in military spending is the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, the aid of the European states to Kiev and the increased spending of the Russian Federation forced some countries to revise their military budgets.

Thus, the military expenditure of the Russian Federation increased by 9.2 percent to $ 86.4 billion, the United States – increased by 0.7 percent to $ 877 billion, Ukraine – increased by 640 percent, making it the highest growth rate in a single country since 1949. Ukraine’s defense budget amounted to $44 billion.
