Scientists at the University of Cologne in Germany found that knowledge of the anatomy of the clitoris increases the likelihood of achieving female orgasm. The results of the research have been published magazine Journal of Sex & Marriage Therapy.
The authors recruited 573 heterosexual participants (64% of the sample were female) who took clitoral anatomy tests and answered questions about their sex lives. In most cases, volunteers answered only half of the nine items on the test correctly. Further analysis of the participants’ responses showed that knowledge of the clitoris predicted sexual pleasure and orgasm in women.
“Our study highlights the gender gap: Although it is the strongest erogenous zone in the female body, most people do not know the structure of the clitoris and its effect leads to orgasm. “It’s important for scientists to develop strategies to increase knowledge of female anatomy to reduce the gap in achieving orgasm.”
