Researchers from the University of Toronto have found that a couple’s sense of importance to a partner depends on the frequency of sexual contact between partners. The results of the researchers’ work published In the scientific journal The Journal of Sex Research.

The authors suggested that reciprocal interactions and commitments contribute to the formation of interpersonal meaningfulness in relationships. But how this fact is affected by sex and communication in a couple has not been investigated before by scientists. The study involved nearly 870 couples who filled out an online questionnaire about their sex life with a partner, as well as their relationship satisfaction and feelings of importance for a partner.

The results showed that the frequency of sexual contact and communication increased the couple’s sense of importance for the partner. This, in turn, was associated with greater feelings of relationship satisfaction. The latter, in turn, affects the frequency of sexual contact.

According to the researchers, the results of their study will help develop new strategies for the treatment of couples experiencing relationship problems in the future.
