Inflammation on the skin is not an indicator of the health of the intestines or other internal organs, so you should not treat the skin as a “mirror” of the body. Vera Voronina, a dermatologist at the Rassvet clinic, told socialbites.ca about this.

“You cannot make a direct connection between facial inflammation and some diseases of the internal organs. Some medical conditions can make acne worse, but in most cases this won’t work. The skin is an independently functioning organ with its own diseases,” stressed Voronina.

The dermatologist also noted that the main cause of acne is the sensitivity of the sebaceous glands to androgen hormones. In more rare cases, acne is associated with increased androgen levels in the blood. For some women with this problem, hormonal contraceptives help improve skin condition, but often dermatologists use it as an adjunct treatment, not the main treatment. If it is worth starting with external drugs and does not help, consider the option of antibiotic or retinoid therapy with a dermatologist.
