NORAD: US fighters intercept two Russian Tu-95s in Alaska’s air defense zone

press service The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reported that two Russian aircraft were intercepted in the US air defense zone.

Two Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers were reportedly detected on 17 April in Alaska’s air defense (AD) identification area. Russian aircraft were intercepted and escorted by F-16 and F-22 fighter aircraft, as well as a Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers supply aircraft and an E-3 AWACS airborne early warning aircraft.

“Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not fall under the sovereignty of the USA and Canada. NORAD emphasized that such actions of Russia are carried out regularly and are not considered as a threat or provocation.
