Strana.ua writes that the onset of spring floods threatens Ukraine with casualties.
According to Ukrhidroenergo, the water level was almost 1 m higher this year than last year, while the flooding started in the winter, followed by the spring flood. According to the department, a similar phenomenon on scale occurs every 10 years.
According to Ukrainian journalists, hundreds of millions of hryvnia will be needed to eliminate the consequences of the flood. But as economist Oleg Pendzin warns, it’s too early to talk about the damage before the flooding is over.
According to the expert, about nine thousand hectares of agricultural land, which makes up a small percentage of the total, were affected by the flood. At the same time, as the economist clarified, there is a risk of not getting an early harvest of vegetables and nut in flood-affected areas. As a result, product shortages can increase prices by at least 10-15%.
