It was noted that the bill amends the provision of deprivation of acquired citizenship for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and committing acts that threaten Russia’s national security.
In addition, the law reduces the number of requirements for more than 20 categories of persons for admission to Russian citizenship, and also gives the president more power to determine the circle of persons eligible for simplified citizenship.
During the debate of the bill, lawmakers and senators proposed 62 amendments – 31 of which were passed. Deprivation of acquired citizenship is now provided for terrorist activities and the trafficking of illegal drugs and psychotropic substances. The bill also included a provision on voluntary deprivation of citizenship.
