Russian scientists have created a genome bank of livestock and plants to simplify the issuance of genetic passports. This was reported by the press service of the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU).

“Several thousand samples of biological material and a bank of breeding animal and crop DNA have been created by scientists from the North Caucasus Federal University and the Federal National Research Center. Genetic certification of sheep and cattle is one of the working areas of the NCFU and the Federal National Research Center’s joint molecular genetics expertise laboratory. “Now the farmers of the Stavropol Territory will be able to obtain a genetic passport for breeding animals,” he said.

During the studies, the scientists, who sequenced the DNA of five domestic sheep breeds, plan to sequence the same number before the end of 2023. The value of a total of 7,000 heads of breeding livestock for the year 2022 has been confirmed.

First of all, such events will improve selection and achieve this using genomic markers so that the productivity of breeds can increase by a quarter in the short run.

Previously, biologists confirmed that moths have “tails.” work as bait for bats.
