Psychologists from the University of Michigan have identified four types of pornography preferences that can predict sexual experience in women. Study published magazine Journal of Sex & Marriage Therapy.
Study participants were 206 women. They shared information with scientists about their sexual experiences, the frequency of watching porn, and the conditions they watched. They were then given a list of 93 pornographic genres available on PornHub. They were asked to rate their preferences by choosing one of the answers: alien to the genre, unrelated, curious, and extremely interesting.
As a result, the team was able to identify four patterns of viewing pornography: heterogeneous (39%), traditional (27%), pleasurable (23%), and vulgar (11%).
The first shows that the woman approves of various forms of pornography. Participants with the second model endorsed more socially acceptable depictions of female sexual behavior. The third strategy is to watch porn that only depicts the female orgasm. The last tactic involves watching genres that depict aggressive or violent sexual acts.
The scientists also made connections between these patterns and the volunteers’ sexual experiences and self-confidence. For example, participants with a traditionally female perspective tended to have less sexual experience compared to those in the “pleasure” group. Women with this second instance of violent pornography tended to have more sexual experiences compared to the same “pleasure” group, but had lower sexual self-esteem. In contrast, the female member had the highest self-esteem.
