A Croatian court rejected a request by five refugees from Chechnya to be granted political refugee status and international protection. These people allegedly left Russia because they did not want to participate in the hostilities in Ukraine. It has been reported mk.ru.
The publication states that this information was confirmed by Isa Daduev, the representative of the “European Chechen Assembly”.
The publication emphasizes that refugees could be deported to Russia if this decision comes into force. They are currently in immigration centres, and the final decision on their fate has yet to be made.
According to Daduev, interpreters attending the hearing said the refusal was made without any evidence and was based on the assumption that the applicants for status were Islamist extremists.
