Child development psychologists at Staffordshire University have conducted a series of studies that show that drawing not only inspires creativity in children, but also helps develop communication, learning and memory skills. Scientists shared the results of their research with the portal Speech.
Drawing allows children to analyze the world around them, describe their perception of life and develop creative skills. Also with the help of drawing, the child can better describe his feelings and situation. To determine how such activities affected their learning skills, the researchers recruited two groups of children who were taught various scientific concepts. The first group had to memorize them with the help of drawing, the second – without. Those who used the drawing understood the subject better.
Moreover, drawing can also help improve children’s memory. Therefore, if a child is asked to draw an event during a story, he will remember more than without a picture. Moreover, the more children drew, the better their memory.
“Through drawing, especially collaborative drawing, parents can not only improve their children’s skills, but also learn more about their situation. Therefore, we encourage you to devote more time to this special event.”
