‘Start-up’ Adaptical makes it easier for teachers and improves student performance
Equally admired and feared, artificial intelligence (AI) takes sides in the most basic daily tasks of technological societies. behind this vehicle voice assistants, vehicle geolocation, smart homes and now, moreover, it is also entering schools.
Adaptical is a start-up born from his hand. three engineers who met at university and facilitating teachers’ work, as well as adapting – and even personalizing – didactic content so that it is digestible for the undeniable diversity of students. The first stages of the project were developed from 2018, but it was not until 2020 that the company was founded. And in 2021, the first employees of a workforce of 13 now joined. They’re all rowing in the same direction: the development of technology innovating education “where artificial intelligence still has a long way to go,” explains the CEO of Adaptical: field fuste.
special tests
he and Xavier Velasco -the third founder left the project- two Catalan computer and telecommunications systems engineers, 27 and 25 years old respectively. They both decided to point out all the work they’ve developed since 2018 on Mathew. Create tailor-made quizzes based on theoretical content previously introduced by the teacher. These engineers calculate that teachers spend an average of an hour and a half preparing each test, but this app can do it in less than a minute. It also has the ability to adapt it to each student through a prior knowledge and pedagogical aptitude test. Currently, this customization is being run as a pilot program on mathematics, but the aim is to expand it to others.
It also has the ability to prepare newcomers in learning environments, the heroes of the new educational law LOMLOE. And they are developing a project to improve tutoring based on the prediction of school performance. “We can guess Which class will they take? students with a margin of error of less than one.”
Change the teacher?
Even Mathew fixes it. “Or doing a fix before,” he explains. Shank. Because the aim is to “never take the place of the teacher, but to make his life easier” goes deeper. And that Adaptical isn’t the first tool ever known to shake the foundations of professional industries, and organizations are putting their batteries into the regulation of technologies that use AI.
For example, there has been a lot of speculation about the controversial ChatGPT, a chatbot that talks to users, answers their questions, and even writes all kinds of text, including creative ones. “The real problem with conversation is that you don’t know if what they’re telling you is true or false, even though it feels like it’s true,” he says. Shank. “It’s a very powerful technological tool, but it doesn’t make any sense in an educational setting,” he says.
Juan Roig’s interest
The initial investment of the project is 30,000 Euros. In July last year, it completed a €170,000 investment round with eight business angels. And they will release one millionth in May of this year. This longing comes after Lanzadera, the accelerator of the revolution. Juan Roig Mercadona – owner – will take care of the project in September 2022. “We didn’t have access to finance at the time because we didn’t have open tours. But now we’ll find it,” says the CEO.
Currently, they monetize an ongoing subscription model. from 250 euros to 400 euros per month for the entire center, according to the functions they commit. “The main difference is that the basic license improves the daily life of teachers, while the advanced license improves student performance as it adapts the content for them and has consequences,” he elaborates.
The architects billed 173,000 euros in 2022 and plan to touch 500,000 euros this year and close one million.

They also have a license designed for publishers and other companies. And soon they will launch one for teachers who decide to hire in person for a monthly fee of 8.99 Euros. The creators of this tool calculate that with it teachers can: reduce time by up to 20% devotion. Although they are not yet profitable and do not expect to be until the end of 2025, the reality is that they had a turnover of 173,000 euros last year and they plan to close at 485,000 euros this year. They are currently working with around thirty clients, including the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
This project will be introduced at the fair. EdTech Congress Education technology, which will take place on 19 and 20 April at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF)-Ciutadella building in Barcelona.
