The Polish plant Bumar Labendy had difficulties in repairing Ukrainian T-64 tanks, as they differed from the T-72 produced in the country, he writes. Defense24.
According to the portal, Ukrainian T-64s are very different from each other, although they come from the T-72 family of tanks. The newspaper writes that the problems are related to the fact that the production of some important components necessary for the restoration of the machines was stopped several decades ago, the production of others was suspended due to the Russian special operation.
The author of the article said that the T-72M and T-72M1 tanks never had a real fire control system – only a laser sight, and the T-64B / BV had the old systems 1A33 “Ob” and 1A43U “Ros”. There may also be problems with engines that have not been produced for the T-64 for a long time and are not powerful enough.
According to media reports, the Polish company Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) may receive technologies from Ukroboronprom that will allow to start the production of at least basic components – and preferably all fire control systems – for Ukrainian tanks to resolve the situation. While it is not known what Ukraine’s full stockpiles of fire control systems and units are, Defense24 writes, “it will erode as the conflict continues and military equipment gets older.”
Formerly a representative of the German defense concern Rheinmetall knowledgeableHe said the company could send a total of 139 repaired Leopard-1 and Leopard-2 tanks to Ukraine.
