Thai authorities have threatened tourists who bring fruit to the country with imprisonment. It has been reported Chiang Rai Times Regarding the UK Department of Agriculture.
The Ministry of Agriculture reminded Thais and foreign visitors that a phytosanitary certificate is required to import fruit from other countries.
Thai Agriculture Minister Rapiphat Chantarasrivong explained that during the busy tourist season, foreigners bring various fruits and nuts with them without the necessary certificates. For violations, foreigners face a fine of 20,000 baht (about 48,000 rubles) or a year in prison.
Formerly Thai authorities unextended Visa-free accommodation for 45 days for tourists from 64 countries, including Russia. Last September, Thailand’s tourism department increased the visa-free regime for some countries from 30 days to 45 days, but this measure ends on March 31.
