VTsIOM: Most Russians consider themselves patriotic

About 91% of Russians consider themselves patriotic, and 52% of them describe themselves as unconditionally patriotic. For 38% of the country’s residents, patriotism is the willingness to defend their homeland against any attack or accusation. It has been proven Survey results All-Russian Center for Public Opinion (VCIOM).

For 48 percent of our citizens, being patriotic means working and acting for the good of the country.

Love for the homeland was associated with family and loved ones for 16% of respondents, and place of birth for 15%. Every tenth associates love of country with love of people, mutual understanding and mutual assistance.

Knowing and loving the country’s history, culture and traditions is seen as patriotic for 9% of Russians. Contribute to its well-being and development – for 7%. 6% of Russians stated that to love the Motherland is not to leave the country.

Nearly a third of those surveyed believe that being patriotic means telling the truth about your country, no matter how painful it may be. For 32%, the concept of patriotism is related to the person’s perception of himself as a part of his country. For 31%, this is the desire to change the situation in the country in order to provide him with a good future. “Believe that your country is better than other countries” option is currently preferred by 18%.

VTsIOM specialists, Moscow and St. He notes that in St. Petersburg there are more patriotic residents than in the whole country – 95%.
At the same time, 5% of Russians surveyed do not consider themselves patriotic.

Young people between the ages of 18-24 perceive the love of the country more than other age groups as knowing the culture and history of that country and contributing to its development. The image of a small homeland is dominant in the older age group, and the family plays the biggest role in the 45-59 age group.

Among the large-scale manifestations is the readiness of the person to defend his country. VTsIOM experts note that during the observation period, the indicator of the level of patriotism did not fall below 80%, and the highest indicator was recorded in 2018 with 92%. The proportion of Russians called themselves patriotic.
